Snowy Range Scenic Byway, WYO 130, closes for winter season

The scenic Snowy Range Scenic Byway, also known as WYO 130, officially closed for the winter season on November 26, 2023, according to an announcement made by the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT). The closure, an annual occurrence, is due to drifting and blowing snow, making road conditions unsafe and plowing impractical.

If one drives I-80 with any regularity, it does not take a long time to realize the wind is very strong along the interstate between Laramie and Walcott Junction. Throw in some snow during winter time, the road can become a killer and quite often not usable.

USDA Forest Service and National Park Service seek public input on proposed guidance for managing climbing, protecting natural and cultural resources in wilderness areas

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service and the Department of the Interior’s National Park Service (NPS) are seeking public input on proposed guidance that would guide agency personnel in managing climbing opportunities on national forests, grasslands and parks. The public is invited to provide input on both agencies’ guidance through Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

Medicine Bow and Routt National Forests to implement winter pile burning

USDA Forest Service Christmas tree permits available online through Recreation.gov

USDA Forest Service News Release    

 

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service is selling Christmas Tree permits through Recreation.gov, which makes it more convenient for visitors to find and purchase permits to cut holiday trees from their favorite national forest. Permits will be available beginning on October 12, and sale dates may vary by national forest.
