USDA Forest Service and National Park Service seek public input on proposed guidance for managing climbing, protecting natural and cultural resources in wilderness areas

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service and the Department of the Interior’s National Park Service (NPS) are seeking public input on proposed guidance that would guide agency personnel in managing climbing opportunities on national forests, grasslands and parks. The public is invited to provide input on both agencies’ guidance through Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

Medicine Bow and Routt National Forests to implement winter pile burning

Forecasted and existing snow on the ground will provide conditions allowing U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service fire personnel on the Medicine Bow and Routt National Forests to begin slash pile burning in the coming weeks/months.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service is selling Christmas Tree permits through Recreation.gov, which makes it more convenient for visitors to find and purchase permits to cut holiday trees from their favorite national forest. Permits will be available beginning on October 12, and sale dates may vary by national forest.

Game and Fish Department conducts annual check station in Medicine Bow for pronghorn opener

A driver on Friday, September 22, going down US 30 towards Medicine Bow, at the intersection where 487 meets this section of the Old Lincoln Highway, would have seen four green trucks parked. These trucks belonged to the Fish and Game Department and a Check Station for antelope hunters was in full operation.

USDA Forest Service invests $2,040,000 to restore forests, reduce wildfire risk in Colorado, South Dakota, and Wyoming

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service announced mid July that it is investing $2,040,000 in projects to reduce wildfire risk and restore healthy forests through the Good Neighbor Authority.
