McKnees Claims Third Championship at the Shane Shatto Tournament

Saratoga’s wrestling team was sidelined this week as illness ran through the lineup.

Head Coach Rusty Arnold said most of the team was out with the flu, forcing the Panthers to sit out the competition.

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) girls team did make the trip to Glenrock on Jan. 9 for the Shane Shatto Tournament.

New Year Brings Mixed Results for Area Hoops Teams

The Tigers lost to Ft. Washakie on January 10 by a score of 28 to 39. A couple of days later, the Encampment faced HEM on January 13 on their home turf. This game was also a loss for the Tigers. The score was 40 to 53 with the Miners taking home the win.

Wrestling in the New Year

The Saratoga High School wrestling team has already gone to matches in the new year. But before January 3, the team wrestled in mid-December.

Head wrestling coach Rusty Arnold said, “So we wrestled in Kemmerer December 19 and 20. We had a great tournament with a lot of matches.”

He pointed out that Ace Arnold and Poppy Anderson both won the tournament.

The Tigers lost to Southeast on December 19 by a score of 46 to 55 at the Goshen County Tournament and won later against Guernsey-Sunrise 60 to 28. On December 20, the Encampment team had to forfeit their next two games against Lingle-Ft. Laramie and Niobrara County. The Tigers are 3 and 5 overall.

Saratoga Wrestlers Open Season with Strong Showing at Lusk

The wrestling season has started and teams from different schools are starting to attend tournaments. The Saratoga Panther coach Rusty Arnold is very excited with the season beginning 

“We started our season off in Lusk for the Tiger Invitational. We wrestled a pretty solid tournament,” Arnold said. “We brought eight boys and five girls.”

The Tigers lost to Burlington on December 12 by a score of 40 to 24. Later in the day, they won against Ft. Washakie 45 to 24. On December 13, the Encampment team lost against St. Stephens Indians 54 to 39. Later in the day, they won against Dubois 59 to 36.

 

Rattlers Crush Burlington for Repeat Championship

Jack Cobb, head coach for the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) High School football team, knew he had a strong athletic group of players when he saw many at football camp over the summer.

He was correct and the Rattler football team proved it on November 15, in Laramie by beating Burlington 67 to 17 in the State Championship for 6-man football.

Jack Cobb, head coach for Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) High School football, had said at the beginning of the season, the Burlington team that had lost so badly to Encampment in the beginning of the season, would probably not be the same team that would be finishing the season.

Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) High School teams had a good season this year, but for one of them, it is over. Although they didn’t win the State Championship, the Lady Rattlers still proved to be a great team.

They lost their last game of the season to Cokeville on October 25, but were still a number one seed going into the championship.

Tigers, Rattlers Dominate on Road to State

The Encampment High School football team had a close game against Riverside as it continued its quest for a spot in the championship game. The Tigers edged the Rebels 20-18 on October 31, giving the team a sweet Halloween treat. Encampment will face Burlington on November 7 in Burlington, a team they defeated earlier this season.

Lady Rattlers Head to State as Top Seed

The Little Snake River Valley High School volleyball team is headed to the 1A State Tournament as the number one seed, the only squad from Carbon County to make the trip this year.

The Lady Rattlers will open tournament play against fourth-seeded Lingle-Ft. Laramie at 6 p.m. on Nov. 6 in Casper.

Teams Show Heart as Season Winds Down

Encampment and Saratoga High School volleyball teams faced off on Friday and Encampment did not fare so well. The Lady Tigers played hard but as they seemed to get a spurt, the Lady Panthers stopped them. Saratoga’s record was 12-6.  Encampment was 1-11.

Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) lost to Niobrara County in a Pigtail game. The Lady Miners record was 4-10.

Teams Keep Winning Streaks Alive in High School Football Action

The Tigers played HEM on October 18 and continued to win in a strong manner with a score of 65 to 0. The team seems to be unstoppable. Their next game is October 18, which will be away against LSRV, another undefeated team. The Encampment team is still undefeated.

Volleyball Teams Mix Wins and Losses Ahead of Key Matchups

The Encampment High School Volleyball team played Farson-Eden on October 17. The next day, the Lady Tigers went up against Cokeville at home and lost. They face Valley rivals Saratoga on October 24 in Saratoga. The Lady Tigers are 1-10.
