Hello everyone, sorry about last week, I decided to try and come down with a cold.  But colds can be healthy for you because it helps build your immune system.  I was thinking since we are heading into hunting season and that always means colder weather, I thought I would take on the topic of Chili.

The bounty of tomatoes

There is something satisfying about planting seeds and a month or so later, having plants spring forth. This year was my first attempt to raise a tomato from a seed. In the past, I have usually grabbed starter tomato plants and been happy with my bounty.

My families–divorced parents, always had gardens.

Tomatoes were a major crop.

The Grasshopper keeps jumping into generations

A green drink is not usually taken seriously by serious cocktail drinkers. However, there is a green drink which has celebrated its 100th birthday and has a bit of history.

It is the Grasshopper.

This green cocktail is credited to being created at Tujuague’s in New Orleans. It is traceable because the drink was invented in a competition.

What goes better with root beer than a big scoop of ice cream? Nothing that I can think of.

I have made a lot of cocktails in my life. Many have been classics forgotten for the most part, many have been standard drinks you see in every venue serving alcohol. I have created a few signature ones too. Bourbon Mai Tai is one of my favorites, but it is not my actual favorite.

Hello everyone and welcome back, I hope you all had a great week and enjoyed the holiday. This week I thought I would talk about something we all have in our cupboards and that is vinegar. Most households have your normal white vinegar. It is great to use to help dye eggs at Easter, clean glass and is great in cooking. It helps add acid to certain foods.

Brownies

It is not as common as it once was to have homemade treats. Grabbing a box mix for cakes and brownies at the grocery store, especially when there are so many varieties available, has become the norm.

The first cake mix was Betty Crocker’s Ginger Cake mix in 1947. Brownies, however, have been around much longer.

Time-saving No-Bake Cookies: a nostalgic treat for hectic school days

By Dana Davis

With school starting and the family getting back into a perhaps earlier and more hectic schedule than was kept during the summer, it may seem like there is not enough time to make a homemade treat to welcome the kids home.

St. Louis Blues Swizzle

By Dana Davis

Reporter, Carbon County Comet

While contemplating a drink for kids, I came across a recipe for St. Louis Blues Swizzle in my favorite cookbook; a handwritten family book of recipes that were written anywhere from 1970 to modern times.

I am uncertain why this drink is named St. Louis Blues Swizzle. This recipe is a non-alcoholic drink that does not have much in common with a St. Louis Blues cocktail.

The Joe Pickett Trivia night hosted by the Saratoga Museum had a little twist Saturday evening with the offering of two cocktails that had two of C. J. Box’s characters in mind from his Joe Pickett novels.

The first was the Geronimo Manhattan.
