The boys’ basketball 1 A Southwest Conference is still not decided who will go to Regionals and which team will stay. Encampment and Little Snake River (LSRV) have to win the game coming up, if they are going. They play each other. If Encampment loses, they are not going on. If LSRV loses, it will be a pigtail for them.

The Saratoga High School gymnasium buzzed with energy on February 9 and 10 as it played host to the highly anticipated Carbon County Wrestling Tournament. Featuring a dozen formidable teams, including representatives from two Carbon County high schools, the event showcased the raw athleticism and determination of young wrestlers.

The boys’ basketball 1 A Southwest Conference is regarded as the most competitive in the State. All five teams would be going to Regionals if they were in another conference is the common thought among fans and coaches.

Besides one team not going, the seeding will be important as brackets are formed for regionals. A higher seed plays a lower seed.

Ranelle Hindman, the wrestling coach for Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM), recently accompanied her team to the Southeast Dual where they partnered with North Park. Despite not securing any team points, Hindman emphasized the valuable experience gained by the three wrestlers representing HEM.

The Encampment E-Club has rolled out the red carpet for the 2024 Homecoming celebration, inviting everyone to join in on the fun and festivities. This year’s Homecoming theme, “Let the Games Begin,” has set the stage for a day filled with thrilling games, a cake auction, and more, all in support of the E-Club’s efforts to bolster athletic programs in the community.

In a week filled with intense basketball action, the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School girls and boys basketball teams took a break, allowing the junior high team to take the court against Saratoga on Tuesday evening. Unfortunately for HEM, Saratoga emerged victorious in both the A and B games.

Flu takes out a Carbon County team

Encampment fought an enemy from within and had to cancel games with their girls and boys basketball teams. Many of the players got a stomach virus or bug that has been hitting the Valley. Saratoga High School also had a few missing players.

Young athletes from Rawlins, Wyoming, delivered an outstanding performance at the Elks Hoop Shoot held in Torrington this past weekend. The Elks Hoop Shoot, a free throw program designed for youth between the ages of 8 and 13, saw Rawlins kids showcasing their skills and determination.

Rawlins Wrestling Team

Rawlins High School’s wrestling team displayed an outstanding performance at the recent tournament in Lander, Wyoming. Out of 26 teams in attendance, Rawlins secured a commendable 3rd-place finish with a total of 165 points. Several Rawlins wrestlers achieved remarkable results in their respective weight categories.

Carbon County saw games canceled as road conditions got bad on Thursday with plummeting temperatures, snow squalls and wind with gusts of 50 mph.
