“We have 24 students that are going out for track this year,” Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) head track coach Jackie Jones said. “The junior high has good numbers too, so we are happy with all the interest and will run with it.”

Jones has a reason to be happy with all the interest because it worked out for her at the recent track event in Rawlins on April 13.

The Nancy Stienberg Memorial Track meet was held on April 12 at the Rawlins High School stadium where every high school track team in Carbon County participated along with Rock Springs, St. Stephens, Thermopolis, Wind River and Rock River.

The Rawlins Soccer team played their third game on April 13 at home against the Newcastle Dogies.

“Newcastle is a good team,” Rawlins High School head soccer coach Laidry Nguimbi said. “They were a challenge and it was a very good game.”

The coach is right, but the Outlaws were up to it. They scored the first goal and the team looked good.

Both University of Wyoming rodeo teams swept their respective divisions at the Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) rodeo in Torrington last weekend to solidify their chances of qualifying full squads to this summer’s College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper.

Colton Daniels, a senior at Rawlins High School, has signed to swim for Ottawa University Surprise in Arizona.

Daniels, known for his exceptional swimming abilities, made the decision to join Ottawa University’s swim team after a thorough evaluation of his options.

The basketball season for all Carbon County school teams came to a close on the weekend of March 9. The Rawlins played Lovell for the consolation game but lost to the Bulldogs 66 to 43. But before they met Lovell, they had two games before. One they lost and the other they won.

The first was Powell who entered the tournament 23-0.

Rawlins Outlaws Dominate Glenrock, Advance to State Championship Showdown Against Undefeated Powell

In the first game that the Rawlins boys basketball played Glenrock on February 29 in regionals, the Outlaws jumped out in the 1st quarter 20 to 3 and the Herders never recovered.

After the dust cleared in 1A regionals, there were not a lot of teams continuing on to play at State from Carbon County. Only the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Lady Rattler girls basketball team from Carbon County School District No 1 and the Saratoga Panther boys basketball from Carbon County School District No 2 were to continue on.

In a display of their prowess on the wrestling mat, all three high schools with wrestling programs in Carbon County secured placements at the State Championships held in Casper.

Rawlins High School, Saratoga High School, and Hanna, Elk Mountain (HEM) High School saw their hopes realized as their athletes showcased their skills in this highly competitive sport.

Notably, two of the four male wrestlers secured spots in the state championships, alongside one female wrestler.
