Before breaking for the summer months, members of the Valley Service Organization present awards, honoring students who have exemplified service to their communities and a woman who has shown distinctive service.
Vivian Gonzales was born in Rawlins and raised in Hanna. She is a true Carbon County native. She graduated from Hanna High School and with the exception of a few years away, Gonzales has called Hanna her home.
“My grandchildren will be the 6th generation living here in Hanna,” Gonzales said. “My maiden name is Romero and on my mother’s side I am related to the Reeds.”
Governor Mark Gordon has appointed Alex Bakken to the Wyoming Search and Rescue Council for a four-year term that will expire June 1, 2030. Bakken was appointed June 2 and said he was honored to serve in the role.
Members of the Rawlins High School Key Club, city officials, educators and community members gathered May 18 at the Key Club Dog Park to celebrate the dedication of new dog bridges built to enhance the park experience for four-legged visitors and their owners.
Memorial Day is a time to honor those who served the USA. In the East, ceremonies can commemorate those who served all the way back to the Revolutionary War.
In the West, it is a different story.

Veterans, families and community members gathered Monday at Saratoga Cemetery for a Memorial Day ceremony organized by the American Legion Post 54, honoring U.S. service members who gave their lives in military service.

Voices from across the Platte Valley came together May 3 as graduating seniors, families and community members gathered for the annual Community Baccalaureate Service at the Platte Valley Community Center.
The Kiwanis Club of Platte Valley will celebrate its 36th year serving the Platte Valley during May with a special dinner and several community activities planned throughout the month.
The club will award two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors, one from Encampment and one from Saratoga. The scholarships will be presented during graduation ceremonies.
