John Cash, the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Ur-Energy went before the Carbon County Commissioners on April 2 to give a presentation on his company’s recent opening of the Shirley Basin Basin Mine.

Although news to many, Cash said it has taken years to get to this point.

The Saratoga Town Council convened its regular meeting on March 19, 2024, at the Saratoga Town Hall, addressing various issues. Led by Mayor Chuck Davis, the meeting saw active participation from council members and discussions on crucial matters ranging from legislative updates to departmental reports.

The Rawlins City Council convened for its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at City Hall Council Chambers, with Mayor Terry Weickum presiding over the proceedings. Notably, Council Members Tonya Lewman, Chris Weisenburg, and Jacquelin Wells were absent, leaving a partial assembly of the council.

The Carbon County Council of Governments (CCCOG) met on March 20 at the Platte Valley Community Center.

The majority of the evening was spent on the subject of cyber security.

Towns represented for the evening were Rawlins, Saratoga, Elk Mountain, Dixon, Encampment and Carbon County.

The Virginian Hotel is a historic hotel in Medicine Bow that has hosted many guests over the years from all over the state, country and world. The residents of Carbon County have watched this landmark building go from being one of the most modern facilities at the turn of the 20th century, to where it is now regaled for how much history it has retained for visitors to see.

The Medicine Bow Town Council convened on March 11 at the Community Hall to discuss various town matters, including the appointment of a new council member.

The Hanna Town Council on March 12 at the Hanna Town Hall. The meeting started a half hour earlier because of a public hearing of a transfer of a liquor license for Dingy Dan’s and later at 6:15 a hearing for the opening of bids for two public works trucks for the town of Hanna.

The regularly scheduled meeting started at 6:30 p.m.

Congresswoman Harriet Hageman understands the complexities of Carbon County because she is no stranger to the area. In her earlier years, she once lived in Carbon County.

“I actually lived at Walcott Junction one summer when I was paving the highway at I-80 to Hanna,” Hageman said. “Also, for a period of time that summer, I lived on the third floor of the Hotel Wolf.”
