The town of Encampment came alive with music, food, and laughter as residents and visitors alike gathered at Grand View Park for the 17th Annual Music in the Park and Town of Encampment BBQ/potluck. The event, which has become a beloved tradition, took place on August 5 and saw an enthusiastic turnout of community members ready to enjoy a day of entertainment and fun.

From Inky’s Shame of Babylon to the Liquid Bread given as a daily ration to the builders of the Aegyptian Pyramids, to the Lagers, Ales, Porters, and Stouts of today, Beer has been there.

The 52nd Rawtown Riot Demolition Derby, a highlight of the Carbon County Fair, delivered an electrifying evening. Enthusiasts from across the region gathered for this event, which showcased premier Demolition Derby Competitors from the Rocky Mountains. Amidst pouring rain, cars collided with thunderous roars during last Saturday’s derby, encapsulating the spirit of raw competition.

In another wonderful celebration of music and community, WhatFest 2023 took center stage, mesmerizing attendees from near and far. Held against the backdrop of Saratoga’s natural beauty and the North Platte River, this year’s edition of the festival was one for the books. Music enthusiasts, artists, and families alike gathered in record numbers to experience WhatFest.

40 acts, 3 stages, hundreds of fans, multiple vendors, amazing landowners, public support, private sponsors, a plethora of meetings, having some Bender’s and Ruble’s help(if you know you know), a HUGE amount of time planning and countless volunteers working towards, what? Did I mention the literal truckloads of equipment???

“I think of myself as a person, person first and foremost,” Cheryl Munroe, the Grand Marshal for the Carbon County Fair and Rodeo said. “Teaching was not a job for me, it was a passion. I loved my students and I loved what I was teaching.”

Munroe said she taught her students life skills which they would take with them forever.
