In 2008, Staff Sgt Taylor E. Pickett crossed the divide in an improvised explosive attack in Kirkuk, Iraq with 18 other people. His mother, Sheri Peterson, started laying plans for Never Forget Park on of corner of Pic Pike Road and Southeast River Street in the parking area for Veterans’ Island Park.
