I have been comfortable in water around the time I learned to walk. My first home was directly on the Chesapeake Bay outside the city of Hampton, Virginia.

I have never been afraid to be in the water and if I had grown up in a town that had a swim team, I probably would have joined. 

I did play water polo intramurally at the University of Maryland but I was nothing great.
