The Elk Mountain Town Council convened on February 10 th at 6:30 P.M. at the Community Center. Mayor Morgan Irene presided over the meeting with council members; Joe Neel, Angie Hobbs, Wade Nelson, and Craig Mustard all present. After the pledge was recited, councilman Joe Neel was sworn into his new term.

The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) met at 9 a.m on February 4 at the Carbon Building.

Chairman Travis Moore, council members, Sue Jones, John Espy, John Johnson, and Gwynn Bartlett were in attendance.

The agenda, minutes of the January 17 meeting were quickly approved. The bills amounting to $794,589.95 were approved.

Gwynn Bartlett is the newest Carbon County Commissioner, but she is no stranger to the job’s responsibilities—she served as Carbon County Clerk for 18 years.

“I was elected County Clerk in 2006 and started the job in 2007,” Bartlett said. “Before that, I had been working in the Clerk’s office since July 1997, and I was happy there.”

The Carbon County School District No. 2 Board of Trustees is considering Rule CKA, which would allow approved employees to carry firearms on school grounds. During a recent meeting, Darren Jennings emphasized that the goal is to enhance student and staff safety, noting that seven other districts already have similar policies. A 45-day public comment period is underway, with the rule potentially taking effect in March.
