The undefeated Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattler football team went to Farson-Eden expecting bad weather and a team to be wary of.
As it turned out, the Rattlers stayed undefeated, beating the Pronghorns 52 to 0 and the weather was good.
“Honestly, the weather was some of the best I have ever seen in Farson,” LSRV head football coach Jack Cobb said. “It was a perfect day for football. At halftime, I even got to take my jacket off and enjoy the day.”
The Rattlers took full advantage of the good day.
“The boys played well offensively and were able to pass with effectiveness,” Cobb said. “Defense did their job well, keeping Farson scoreless.”
Cobb admits his team has a strong threat offensively with quarterback Mason Jones hitting receivers for four touchdowns, Seth Maxson running for two touchdowns and Bridger Cozzens running a touchdown in. The Rattlers are lethal at this point in the season.
Defensively many players had tackles, but Cozzens led with 10.
Cobb sees the team getting more confident after the win over Encampment last week.
“It was a good win for us,” Cobb said. “Beating Encampment last week let them see what they could do against a really good team and they took it to the next level against Farson. They came out and did their jobs.”
The regular season is over for the Rattlers with them having a bye next week. Then they will face the Hulett Devils, who they beat earlier this year.
Cobb is not actually wild about being off the next week, but he is going to have the team work on some little things he said need adjustment.
“Plus the boys get to rest some and that is good for us,” Cobb said. “Then we face a team in Hulett who showed us a passing type of offense which we have to be ready for.”
The season may be over, but Cobb knows the target on his team’s back has not gotten smaller. He knows the teams he will meet in the next couple of weeks, want to prevent the Rattlers from going the distance to Laramie.
Cobb feels he has a very balanced team and is looking forward to the playoffs.
“We just have to see how it all goes,” Cobb said. “I may feel good about these kids and what they can do but nothing is a given when you are heading to Laramie for the championship.”
