One of the worst Wyoming catastrophes occurred in Hanna on June 30, 1903. The Number One Mine exploded and the exact death toll was unknown at the time of incident. 

There had been one death due to an explosion in 1890 at the Number One Mine, so miners were aware of the danger, but nobody had been prepared for this tragedy.
