The community of Saratoga was left in shock and grief on Sunday, August 13, as news spread of the untimely passing of Saratoga police officer Glen Casner. Officer Casner’s sudden death has left a void in the town he served and protected, leaving behind his beloved wife Caitlin and their six children.
Glen Casner was more than just a dedicated law enforcement officer; he was a devoted husband and father who touched the lives of many in the Saratoga community. His commitment to his family and his community was unwavering and his loss is deeply felt by all who knew him.
According to the GoFund Me page started by Ashleigh Witherite with Caitlin’s permission, Casner began his law enforcement career in 2014 at the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO), where he demonstrated his passion and dedication to the field. In 2019, his hard work paid off as he earned a coveted spot on the EPSO K9 unit, becoming the first and only single-purpose handler dedicated to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
In 2021, Casner’s dedication to his profession led him and Caitlin to seize a new opportunity in Saratoga, Wyoming. He joined the Saratoga Police Department, taking on the role of running a K9 unit on the road. This advancement in his career allowed him to continue serving his community and further his passion for law enforcement.
The year 2022 saw further accomplishments for Casner as he attended a two-week K9 academy in Colorado with his partner, Angel. During this intensive training, the bond between Angel and Casner deepened and their hard work paid off when they achieved the remarkable feat of becoming NPCA certified on narcotics detection in just 10 days. This achievement highlighted Casner’s commitment to excellence and his exceptional skills as a law enforcement officer.
While Glen Casner’s contributions to his profession were exceptional, his love and dedication to his family were truly remarkable. He placed Caitlin and their six children at the center of his life, consistently expressing his profound love for them. He was known for speaking about his family with a deep sense of pride and joy.
With Officer Casner’s passing, Caitlin is now faced with the financial responsibility of caring for their six children. To support the family during these challenging times, a GoFundMe page has been established at https://gofund.me/9389f042.
A memorial service to honor the life and contributions of Officer Glen Casner will be held on August 19, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Platte Valley Community Center Gym, providing an opportunity for the community to come together and pay their respects.
