Learning by being outdoors

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Middle and High School went on a STEM field trip to the Snowy Mountain Range in late September. STEM education is a teaching approach that combines science, technology, engineering and math.

About a year ago, STEM was expanded and is now known as STEAM. This teaching approach incorporates the arts. 

Exceeding Expectations

Two schools in Carbon County School District No. 2 (CCSD2) received the result of exceeding expectations when the Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) released results for the 2022-23 School Performance Ratings.

In sports and other school organizations, if a student travels to participate in a school event and doesn’t spend the night, they must pay for their meals. Given that there are many games where the team just travels for a day, there are a lot of meals students on these teams must pay for.

2023 HEM Homecoming
Fifty-year reunion meets at homecoming

Hanna High School had its 50-year reunion this past weekend during Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School’s homecoming celebration.

The original class had 23 graduates, but seven members of the class have passed on. Most of the remaining students showed up in Hanna on Friday for dinner at the Nugget.

It starts with a barn

A new structure is going up behind the Saratoga High School. The finished building will be a barn which will eventually house animals for FFA students who don’t have access to facilities where they live and want to raise livestock.

Lane Moreland, the teacher in charge of the FFA, said this was the purpose of the barn.

Whether you believe in ghosts or not, the subject of the paranormal is intriguing. In almost every town in Carbon County, there are tales of certain buildings which are supposed to be haunted. With all the supposed haunted buildings, there could almost be a tourist attraction to see the haunted places of Carbon County.
